Phillies sign Blanton

The Phillies signed Joe Blanton for $5.475MM. Not a bad deal. After spending half the year in the NL maybe he show some of the promise he did two years ago.

Phillies sign Victorino

The Phillies avoided arbitration with outfielder Shane Victorino by signing him for '09. This is good sign him, Madson, Dobbs and Hamels is a good start to arbitration process. The lack of movement with Howard is troubling. Yes, I know that there is no need to lock him up for a long term deal right now, but I think that uncertainty of his cost limits us. I would love for the Phillies to pick up another starter, but without knowing how much Howard is going to earn this year, limits what they are will to do right now.
